Do water softeners work in winter?

Softeners work in any season, but cold garages and basements can cause problems. Below freezing, brine lines can freeze and stop regeneration.

Keep the unit in a space that stays above 5°C, check that the salt isn’t bridged, and make sure the bypass valve is set correctly.

Incoming water is also colder in winter, which can slightly change regeneration times. This is normal.
